My friend's amplodine experience

[Top]

It was a close friend of mine that first brought amlodipine side effects to my attention.

A few years ago his prospects were very bright he then went through a rough period in his life, it was during this time he was prescribed amlodipine for high blood pressure.

Dizziness, fatigue and nausea on a regular basis then followed. He saw a number of doctors, was sent to hospitals for tests but the finger was never pointed at amlodipine.

It was my friend who researched amlodipine side effects and then decided to stop taken them. His whole way of life has changed he is no longer as independent like he was previously.

Even today the doctors are still not pointing the finger at amlodipine.

Here are some more patient experiences.

"I checked the side effects of this drug on his website. I was amazed to see that many people have had the same experience as I have had. I also take lisiniprol.

I decided to come off, although my gp did not want me to but is willing to see how things go for a couple of weeks. well, within two days (this is now the 4th day I have been off this tablet) my health has changed considerably.

My pains have subsided a lot, I have slept for two nights (before I was lucky to get 3/4 hrs sleep) was always fatigued. Mainly my brain seems to be much better.

I went to a meeting saturday (I am a volunteer advising carers) and I actually remembered the names of the people I was talking to and still can remember.

I cannot believe it. Before, during a conversation with someone, I always had to stop them and ask what I was discussing, even over the dinner table I had to keep asking people what I had just said. I think doctor's are reluctant to hear these side effects (even though most printed on instructions in box).

I will keep you informed of how I am getting on as I have had a considerable weight gain and I am now waiting for a miracle to lose weight!!"

"It is such a relief to find that I have not been imagining all the bad symptoms I developed on amlodipine.

The doctor was so angry when I told him I had come off it as it made me feel so dreadful, but really my quality of life had deteriorated to such an extent that I just had to give it up.

My blood pressure is not really so very high now - around 157/90, and I am going to investigate less drastic ways of keeping it down to a reasonable level. Has anyone found a drug that has fewer side effects? I do take propanolol without any bother."

From patient.co.uk

There are five pages of threads that people have started about their negative experiences stretching all the way back to 2005. It is certainly something that cannot be ignored.

Amlodipine may not be responsible for your friend's condition

[Top]

That is always a possibility that amplodipine may not be responsible for his condition, but my friend and I are convinced that is not the case. The dizziness, fatigue, nausea started when he began the course of amlodipine.
